Englishn 17 Extra-Credit Project



For your extra-credit project, you need to make a review of a Philippine or foreign movie that has garnered critical acclaim or recognition from a film body.

The links below will help you in writing a good movie review:
* The guidelines from the above sites are not absolute (except for the ones about grammar). For example, if you are more comfortable writing in the first person, then go ahead and use "I" for your review.

Instructions:
  1. Your review must be at least 300 words and not more than 500. 
  2. Please use Calibri, 11-12 font size, and 1.5 spacing.
  3. Save your review  in .doc or .docx format.
  4. In your review, please do not forget to include your name, class schedule, and the title of your review. 
  5. Email your work to mikequirong.cdu@gmail.com.
  6. In the subject field of your email, please type in your name, subject, and class schedule. 
  7. Submit your work on or before April 1, 2013.
  8. One film review is worth 20 points.
  9. Film reviews that contain plagiarized text will get an automatic zero score.
  10. You can submit more than one review.
  11. Anyone can submit an extra credit project.
*Movie reviews that are deemed unsatisfactory will be returned for the student to revise. Hence, students are advised to check their emails daily after they have submitted their movie review.

Notes on the Parts of a Three-Chapter Thesis Paper



Initial Pages

Title Page  
The following information needs to be on the title page:

  • The title (and possibly the subtitle) of your thesis
  • First name and surname of the author(s)
  •  Whether it is a ‘Bachelor’s thesis’ or a ‘Master’s thesis’
  • Faculty and department
  • Place and date of completion


Approval Sheet
This is to prove that the authors have passed the requirements needed for the thesis.
This is signed by the thesis/FS adviser, panel, and the Dean.

Abstract
An abstract presents a brief summary of your thesis.

Acknowledgment
This is a page focused on expressing gratitude to organizations, agencies or individuals who, in one way or another, have aided the researchers in finishing the thesis.

Chapter 1: Problem and Its Scope

Rationale of the Study
This is where you provide an introduction to the topic of your thesis: you give the context in terms of content of the research project.
This section will state the contribution of your study and the usefulness of your study in the society.

Theoretical Background and Review of Related Literature
It elaborates the research problem in relation to relevant literature.
It should cover the following:

  • Existing research and its relevance for your topic
  • Key ideas or constructs in your approach


Statement of the Problem
The problem must be reflected to your title or the readers must know your problem by just simply reading your topic.

Significance of the Study
This section will state the contribution of your study and the usefulness of your study in the society.

Research Methodology
Research Design
The appropriate research design should be specified and described.

Research Instrument
Describe the instrument and what it will measure

Scope and Delimitation
The scope is mainly the coverage of your study and the Delimitation is the limitation of your study or topic.

Chapter 2: Presentation, Analysis, and Interpretation of Data
Present the findings of the study in the order of the specific problem as stated in the statement of the Problem.
Data may be analyzed quantitatively or qualitatively depending on the level of measurement and the number of dimensions and variables of the study.
Establish interconnection between and among data

Chapter 3: Summary, Findings, Conclusions, and Recommendations

Summary of Findings
This describes the problem, research design, and the findings (answer to the questions raised). The recommended format is the paragraph form instead of the enumeration form.

Conclusions
These are brief, generalized statements in answer to the general and each of the specific sub-problems.

Recommendations
Recommendations may be specific or general or both. They may include suggestions for further studies.

Bibliography
A bibliography is a list of books, articles, and other sources you use when researching a topic and writing a paper.

Appendix
An appendix is used to clarify information about the data gathered relating to the thesis.
It will consist of different sample information like the questionnaires, survey form, schedules etc.

Curriculum Vitae
It provides an overview of the researchers’ academic qualifications.

Notes on Research



Research is a process of enquiry and investigation; it is systematic, methodical, and ethical; research can help solve practical problems and increase knowledge.

Extra-credit Project for Speech 11

Transcribe words in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).
Write your IPA transcriptions on a one whole sheet of intermediate paper.
25% of your words should have one syllable.
25% of your words should have two syllables.
25% of your words should have three syllables.
25% of your words should have four or more syllables.
For students who got a final grade of 3.1-3.5, transcribe 100 words.
For students who got a final grade of 3.6-3.9, transcribe 200 words.
For students who got a final grade of 4.0-4.5, transcribe 300 words.
For students who got a final grade of 4.6-4.9, transcribe 400 words.
You can submit your project on or before April 1, 2013.
Just leave your project on my table.
